December 13, 2025 / no comments

Ever wonder why city workers are not answering your calls, returning your emails or processing your applications? They might be working on one of the hundreds of meaningless reports required by city laws. There’s even a law requiring the city to report how many reports are required. As of 2019, according to a 57-page analysis, there were 842. The City Council is trying hard to get to 1,000. Last week, by overriding Mayor Eric Adams’ vetoes, it added another, and compounded the error by forcing businesses as well to file annual reports that will accomplish absolutely nothing. Under Intro 982-A, […]

The Daily Dirt: New access agreements law aims to quell neighbor drama

December 13, 2025 / no comments

Access agreements are the bane of many New Yorkers trying to renovate a home.  These sign-offs are almost unavoidable in a city where buildings sit shoulder-to-shoulder and most apartments share walls, floors and ceilings. Both routine upgrades and ground-up construction often require workers to temporarily intrude on a neighbor’s property. But getting permission can be a tall order. A reluctant neighbor can send owners into months of back-and-forth. If the dispute lands in court, and many of them do, coming to a resolution can delay projects even further.  Just last month, a trust tied to comedy writer Jill Davis and […]

The MTA is taking offers for more than 300,000 square feet of development rights in Lower Manhattan.  The agency released a request for proposals Friday, seeking a buyer of up to 350,000 square feet of landmarked air rights tied to the Fulton Center.  The transit center shares a zoning lot with the Corbin Building, a terra cotta-clad office building built in 1889, which was landmarked in 2015. December 12, 2025 / no comments

When Mark Nussbaum’s law firm collapsed last year, it left clients scrambling to recoup missing escrow funds – and wondering where their money had gone. A newly filed lawsuit now points to a dead Brooklyn real estate investor as the alleged linchpin of a sprawling scheme in which hundreds of millions of dollars were siphoned from client escrow accounts.  The lawsuit, filed by the lawyer handling the liquidation of Nussbaum’s former law firms, seeks to recover about $330 million from two entities formerly tied to the late Borough Park-based real estate investor Mendel Steiner. It alleges that Steiner ran a […]
